I purchased a 2005 Chevy Malibu in Jan of 2007. It is now Jan of 2010 and my car is in the shop for the 38th time in 3 years. I have had nothing but problems with this car. The first day as I was driving off the lot, the power steering went out, stranding me and my three kids on the side of the road in the rain. It took Chevy 3 visits to fix the problem, and finally they just replaced the whole thing, steering column and everything.
I have had my ignition switch replaced three times, the radio/CD player twice, the electric window motors several times and each time it goes to the dealer, it is not fixed or comes home with an entirely new problem. Last year, it completely broke down. I had it towed to the dealer, who said it was an actuator, replaced that and two days later, it broke down with the same problem. They then said it was the gas cap. 4 caps later, it still wasn't fixed.
After replacing the computer chip and whatever else. As I was driving home, I noticed that the heater wasn't working (which was just fine when i dropped it off). Now, this is just the highlights of this piece of crap. It is now 2010, January and it's back in the dealership shop. I originally took it to Firestone and paid one hundred dollars to be told that they can't fix it. They diagnosed the ECM was recalled.
Chevy says it has not been recalled and it is not the ECM but the catalytic converter. The problem is it will not shift out of first. How can the catalytic converter affect the transmission. I know that they will replace this and in two days, it will continue to do the not shifting thing again and I will be stranded again. This car is nothing but a headache, and I am so far upside down that my only option is to just let it go and file bankruptcy. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I am out thousands of dollars on a vehicle that isn't worth what is been put into it. Also, the time off work and on buses and cabs due to lack of vehicle while its in the shop.
