I purchased a 1995 Nissan Maxima on 11/15/09. On 11/17/09, I took the car back to Michael because the check engine light came on. I was talked to as if I was stupid and was told, "That doesn't mean anything. There is nothing wrong with the engine. I will reset it for you. If it comes back on and you want to waste your time coming back here to Pasadena, I'll have the guys at the Shell station reset it again. The car companies only have that there to get you to bring the car back in so they can make some money."
I expressed my concerns because I have a Nissan Frontier and the check engine light doesn't just come on for no reason. There was no diagnostics done. I had a 30 day warranty on the engine. I brought the car back to Michael on three other occasions before the warranty expired. Now the car has stopped running. The check engine light still remains on, the brake light and battery light came on and the car began to smoke on the right side under the hood. I was stranded at work. I call Michael the next morning and told him about the situation. He stated he wanted to help me. He advised me to bring it to his mechanic because he felt someone would try to take advantage of me. I had my car towed to his mechanic.
The first problem was the water pump. Then the mechanic called and asked me had the car ever ran hot while I had it and I told him no. He stated that is was possible that the car had ran hot before I owned it being that I hadn't had the car long and that the head gasket was blown. The mechanic told Michael. I called Michael to see what he was going to do being that I had brought the car back to him on four different occasions. He avoided my calls and finally I got his cell phone number from one of his employees.
When we spoke, he told me it wasn't his fault and I need to just get it fixed. He became very angry when I explained to him that I hadn't had the car for four months and I even brought the car back to him because of the check engine light before the warranty expired and he hung up the phone in my face and I haven't heard from him since. I told the mechanic to just close the car up and I will have it towed back to my home because the mechanic told me I couldn't drive it.
I am now left with only one car. My husband has an unpredictable work schedule. I put $2,000 down on that car and don't have any money to get it fixed or buy me another one. Not only am I dealing with a lemon of a car, but my husband has some medical problems and I have to drive him back and forth to the hospital. It's just a lot of stress to deal with. I was taken advantage of because I am a woman. If I were a man I would not have been treated this way.
