For the past year, my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer has been blowing headlights and tail lights every couple of months. In June, I took it to the dealership to have them inspect the wiring and it was determined that the driver's side head light assembly had to be replaced because the wiring was charred from a short. The replacement cost my $500 in parts and labor. It is now November 2009, and the passenger side head light just blew.

My husband was attempting to replace it and it too has charred wiring AND the ponytail plug from the assembly to the bulb is completely melted. I researched this problem on the internet and found several people who have had the same problem. The recommendation is to replace the factory ponytail plug with an after-market plug with high temperature resistant wiring. According to the research, the factor wiring is not insulated properly causing the fire and then bulb burn. If we do not replace all plugs, I'm afraid there could be a serious engine fire.
