My daughter purchased a new 1999 Dodge Neon in Dec of 99. It was a car of her dreams with everything they see wanted on it. This car of her dreams has turned into the car from hell. You see the car tends to accelerate for no reason at all. The rpms just race and away you go! The only way you can get it to stop is top put it in neutral. It has been towed to the shop on four different times. Customer service along with the dealership all state that nothing shows up on the codes so there is nothing wrong with the vehicle.
The last time it happened I was driving the car only two days after getting it from the dealership when it the car just started to accelerate. I ended up in a ditch. The state police were called -- the officer turned off the vehicle which was still racing and in neutral. The vehicle was towed and at the dealership for over a month when we were contacted and told to come pick up the vehicle that there is nothing wrong with it.
Even after we talked to several people at customer service they stated that nothing shows up on codes so everything is fine with the car. When we state that an officer along with several witnesses saw what happened Customer Service states that because we are unauthorized mechanics it doesn't matter. Unless the problem happens to an authorized chrysler mechanic they can not do anything.
This past Friday a Zone officer from Chrysler came out and looked at the car. He was with the car for one hour and could not find anything wrong with the car. So we are basiclaly stuck with a 99 Neon which everyone is afraid to drive. I think that consumers should be aware that this is very dangerous! Not only for the driver but for any one on the road as it could cause a serious accident.
