Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Went to test drive the 2008 C70 convertible at Garden State Volvo in Manasquan, NJ.

From the start I told the salesman that I wanted the car standard with automatic transmission. I did not want any of the premium packages or special features. I also told him that I did not want the car till December because financially it would be better to wait for the car if that was possible. He said that was no problem because it takes 3 months to get the car in anyway. He wasn't exactly sure when the allocation date was but he would get to me the next day.

We get to the computer and order the car as I requested....standard (the car is fully loaded without any extra bells and whistles) with no packages and automatic transmission.

The next day at work, Guy (the salesman) calls me to get my credit card information and ss# in order to place the order. By the way.....the off black interior is no longer available in the standard so I upgraded you to the premium package to keep the off black. I told him no. I did not want to spend the $1500.00 just for the interior color, so to please change it to the standard interior color. We went back and forth alittle bit about why and blah, blah and then he agreed to change it to the standard interior color. Then he tells me that it will be a $3500.00 charge today to place the order instead of the regular $500.00 fee that everybody else pays because the car will be in 11/29/07 and if they have to hold the car for me until the December date, they need to charge me that amount now (he never offered to place the order later so that the car would come in at a later date, which is possible). I told him not to hold the car, I accept the 29th date and to put through the $500.00 charge.

I did not have my drivers license number on me as I was at work, so I told him I would call him right back. I call him back with my DL# and he tells me he is putting through the $3500.00 charge. I say no, you are not holding the car for me. The charge to order the car is $500.00 just like you charge everyone else.

Ten minutes later, he calls me back to tell me that the dealer is personally refusing to put the order through. When I ask why I can not place the order the salesman tells me that if I back out of the car deal they will be stuck with an unmarketable car. I told him that I never gave any indication that I would back out and that they falsely advertise because you are supposed to be able to order the car standard according to what they told me and according to the Volvo website.

They practiced fraudulently. Because they couldn't hardball me to purchase an upgrade that I didn't want or need now they refuse to put the order through!! It is discriminatory, false advertising and fraudulant.

I bought a 1997 used v90 from this dealer in January of '06. On june of the same year I took it to have it aligned at a Firestone Service Center wher the previous alignment was performed. This time the Tech. checked the passenger door and asked me what year my car was model my car was. I told him it was a 1997 model and he said: that is not what the door says. I verified his satemen.

immediately I went to the dealer and pointed the problem. After contacting Volvo Cars of America and being told they had nothing to do with it, I went again to the dealer. this time the Sales manager checked the car and volunteered to say that the door had been replaced and that they had done a good job at painting it. I told him I bought the car in good faith and felt cheated by the dealer. If they did not check the car when they took it as a trade-in, it is not my fault that they did not notice it. i didn't at first. once he had verified the complaint, he daid he would take care of it.

This is the end of the year and I have not hear a word from him.

I would not recomend this dealer as the best to for customer care. Two of my friends have bought cars following my advice and they have not bouhgt from the above mentioned dealer.

I even removed the dealer's name plate in the presence of the aove mentioned manager.
