Open Road Acura

East Brunswick, NJ

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I would like to file a complaint about Open Road Acura in Wayne, NJ. On 06 August 2011, Saturday, we went to check the cars in this dealer. Chris gave us a really good deal to lease one of the 2011 Acura's. He said I was going to pay $399 a month and $8,000 for down payment. We liked the deal. He told us that he was going to get the approval so we had to pay the $8,000 down payment. Like everybody else, we did not have that amount of cash on us. We paid $700 in cash and went back home to get the rest.

When we came back, he kept us almost two hours and came to us saying that I needed a cosigner. At the beginning, we told him that we did not want cosigner. I told him to cancel the deal but he said he was going to call the bank on Monday again to get the approval and give me a call. I waited all Monday for a phone call but I have not heard anything from him. I then called the dealer and they told me that he was off. They put someone else named Warren on the phone and he told me that I was denied so I could go and get my refund back.

I went there the same day to get my money and I talked to the sales manager. He said he did not know what Warren was talking about because I wasn't denied. He promised to call me back with a result on Tuesday so I went back home. However, nobody called me on Tuesday so I called them on Wednesday. Chris was there and he told me that I really needed a cosigner. I told him, God knows how many times, that we don't want a cosigner but he insisted. I asked him to just cancel the deal and get my refund back. He said he was going to call me back on when I could get the money.

He said they were going to send me a check but I asked him not to mail it because I needed the money as soon as possible. They said that they were going to call me when it was ready. I waited until Friday; again, no phone call. I called Chris and he said that he had to ask his boss. He called me back in the afternoon saying that they already mailed the check, even though I specifically instructed him not to mail it. I also emailed his sales manager, Bob **, but they just ignored me.

So I called Chris and asked him his GM's email address to complain about them. He refused to give his email address and he told me that he was going to call me. I did not need to talk to anybody because I needed everything written since they kept lying to me. Today is Tuesday, August 16, 2011 and still, no check and no phone call. I really don't know how to deal with these people. Thank you for your help.

My 2005 Brand new Acura MDX started a rumbling noise at about 55,000 to 60,000 miles. took it to Acura and since they couldn't duplicate the noise it did not exist. This went on for about awhile. I decided to take it to a friend who is a mechanic and asked him to keep the car until he heard the noise. I got the call from him that it was the torque converter. Returned to acura , now out of warrantee , they heard the noise at this point. I had to pay over 2,000 dollars after fighting with them and their powers that be.

Well now just approaching the end of the "new" warrantee I took it back for the same noise, they did not duplicate it. The noise now getting worse I returned again to Acura and a mechanic heard the rumbling. The car was very expensive and there are numerous reports on line concerning the same problem, is this car a lemon? I am concerned that every few years I will have the same fight with Acura about the same part. I can not keep paying for and be responsible for a part that seems to be poorly constructed by the manufacturer.

Acura seems to live in denial when discussing this problem and they need to be held responsible. As of now we have paid out over $2000.00 on a car that had less then 100,000 miles, However, the problem started at around 55,000 to 60,000 miles . Car is in the shop again at about 125,000 for the same problem.

We went to buy a Accura RDX and had a particular budget in mind. We were earlier not sure about whether we would like to finance or lease so we asked the sales person -- Steve Flaster to give us both options. While he was explaining he said financing would be better and explained us the deal about monthly payment. After that he wanted to do the paperwork straightup. We said we are not sure yet and need some time to think. He said that this deal is the best and if we need to hold those numbers than we have to give them some deposit but that is refunadable. So we paid $500 deposit and he gave us in writing that its refundable. the next day we thought that financing didnt work for us and told Steve that we wanted the money back. He said that he has good leasing options too.

We made it clear that we can look at the leasing options but if that dont work for us than we would like the money back. He agreed. The leasing options he gave kept on changing and there were all sort of charges. Then they finally told us that they got us approved but the rates might change because of our credit history. I told them that there is no way we want to pay anymore money and just want our money back. They said the accounting department is here during the day and we will get our money back in 10 days. They are not giving us a refund and pressuring us to buy this car. I have tried calling them and no body comes on the phone. Also i have already visited this place 3 times but they give me one answer that accounting department works during the day. I usually go around 7pm as i go there after work. I have asked the credit card company to put hold to this. I hope someone can help me with this.

I was told by the sales person, Christine, and her manager, John, that I would receive a $500 gas card with my new lease. I was first told that I would receive it when I came back to pick up my plates. When I came back to pick them up I was told it would be mailed to me. I called back after a couple of weeks with no gas card yet, and then was told no one ever claimed to have told me I would get the card. It was advertised as a special, I was told I would get it, and now I want what I was promised. This dealership committed fraud.

It has caused me great aggrevation and stress and if its not resolved through reporting them I will contact an attorney.

On 3/15/06 purchased a 2006 Acura TL. Mr. Dave at open road acura's business office sold me an extended warranty ( 7 years, 120k Miles)with Universal Underwriters Service corp. (I was looking for extended warranty backed by Acura). For this I paid $2,120.00 with visa credit card.

Dave told me 2 incorrect facts:

a) he only promoted Universal warranty. He told me they only offer this Universal warranty.

b) He verbally advised me cancellation can be done within 60 days with full immediate refund.

I called and cancelled contract on 3/17/06 ( within 48 hours) by phone, followed up by fax, and went to dealership and filled cancellation form.

To my total surprise they refused to give me refund on my card.
I called John Gomes (G.M. of dealership today). He advised me refund would come directly from Universal.

I advised John that on 3/17/06 ( day I cancelled)I spoke to Universal, and they directed me to cancell and collect refund from seller(dealer)directly.

I pointed to John that my contract was with dealership, and I needed full refund back as verbally agreed by Dave at dealership office. John further said, the dealership made only $ 100 in this deal, and they paid Universal next day + they paid sales tax already and sales tax was not refundable...

I did mention sales tax on cancelled contracts is due back to customer (and it is for dealer to reconcile with NJ state).

Basically, have got different stories and a run around from this dealer and it is very unplesant, undesireable.
I trusted Dave on his word and took warranty ( applicable after 4 years)

To get refund it is become a run around.

This was supposed to be a straight forward deal which was cancellable with full, immediate refund to my Visa and has now become a multi dimensional refund ordeal
Universal to pay me what they got from dealer
dealer to give me another payment ( their profit)

i have to chase sales tax dept for $ 120 tax collected by Open road ( John Gomes verbally advised me they will not refund)

My credit card payment is getting due. If i dont have refund, it will accrue finance charges.

this has also caused me stress ( undue) and taken time trying to get this refund.
