On October of 2002, I purchased a Mazda B3000 truck from Mazda of Smithtown. Soon thereafter the truck began to give me problems with the transmission. The problem was that when I shifted gears the transmission cranked and shuttered when it acelerated. I took it to the dealer on February 17, 2003 and according to their report they were not able to locate the source of the problem. The car continued to act in the same manner and as time went on the problem begun to be worst.
By October 14, 2003, I broght the car in with the same complaint and once again I was told that nothing wrong could be located. I must note that in between the two times, previously described, Mazda and Mitsubishi united and that it is now called Mithtown Mitsubishi.
In any event, I was extremely upset with the condition of the car and could not allow the people at Mazda to tell me that I was wrong, when the problem could easily be detected by anyone driving the truck.
Therefore, I decided to go out of my way and locate a repyutable transmission service shop and requested that they perform a test on my car. It was then that I was informed that Mazda has continously had this problem but that they have chosen to ignore it because it would be very expensive for them to do a recall then to repair only those carrs of people who set complaints. I was outraged by my findings and returned to the Dealer's Service shop, this time demanding to speak to the Service manager.
After much hassel I was able to speak to Edward J. Merman. I believe that my outrage convinced him that he needed to take me seriously and this time he said that he would look into the problem. What do you know, he found it!!! I was then told that the transmission needed to be changed and that a specialist would look at the car the next day. On October 31, 2003,the car was (supposedly) repaired. On receipt of my vehicle I detected that the truck no longer made the cracking noise but the shutter had gotten worst. I once more returned to Mazda and told them about the problem. The service techinician, upon the direction of Mr. Merman, accompanied me for a short road test. What do you know, he immediately detected that indeed there was a problem!!!!!
Well, I left the car for a fourth time and I was assured that things will be taken care of. On November 5th, 2003, I was told what I was expecting to hear. There is a major problem with cars of this make, Mazda is aware of it, but they still do not know how to fix the problem.
The last report issued by Mazda indicates as follows Tech states he road tested veh for 2 miles and was able to duplicate customer's concern/ tech then called Mazda Tech line (REF #321390) Mazda tech line told tech that they know about problem and they are working software to fix the problem So what does this mean? I'm out of luck and since they don't know what the problem is they can't do anything? In addition, I was also told that an internal memo had gone out and that their service department was aware of this the entire time. So, what was all that all about? Why did they hide the problem from the beginning? Were they waiting for me to go away and to drive my car to the point that they could blame it on me? Maybe there are a lot of people of whom they have taken advantage of in the past, but I refuse to be one to be added on to their list.
Mazda has clearly played games with me. Now that they have seen how upset I become and how informed I have become regarding their responsabilities and what the Lemon Law is all about, they finally decided to come clean and tell me the real problem. I think this is ridiculous!!! Another of the Service assistants, Benjamin Bally, now tells me that he is on my side and that he is symphatetic but that they just can't handle such a sophisticated problem and that if Mazda doesn't give them the necessary tools (software,) they can't help me. However, Mr. Bally is the same person that initially told me that there was nothing wrong.
What I want at this point is assistance in resolving this matter. I need as much help from your department as possible. I am willing to make this a public concern. Have you had similar reports either in connection to Mazda or Ford? They are the same company and I from what they stated the Ford ranger has the same problem.
I want a solution, either a new car, have them buy back my car at the price I paid or better yet fix it. (Good luck with the latter because they don't even know how!!!!)I am tired of incompetent service dealers. I am worried that the transmission at one point will brake alltogether and this clearly places my life at danger. As a matter of fact I told them this and they replied you are right and if we could help you we would.
