In 2004 I purchased a new Chevy Aveo. In February 2007 the timing belt broke, causing major engine damage. Had it towed and repaired at a mechanic I have dealt with before, very honest and does good work. I contacted Ocean Chevy and they said it was over the mileage so they could not do anything. Contacted GM for their good will and was told the same thing.
Being a senior on a fixed income, $2,400 was alot to pay but I had no choice. When the work was done, the radio would not work and I was told to put in the code that came with my paperwork when I purchased the car. I could not find it so Ocean Chevy said for $90 they would give me the code. I again called GM and they in turn called Ocean Chevy and got the cost down to $45, WHAT A BARGAIN! This code is on my paperwork at the dealer but they could not just give it to me, they had to make some money for it. To make matters worse, I received a letter back in November stating that there was a problem with the gas caps and if the engine light came on, they would repair it at no charge.
Well, guess what, the light came on and my mechanic looked at it and said he wasn't sure where the problem was, but somewhere around the gas cap. Went back to Ocean Chevy, showed him the letter, the engine light, and what the mechanic said. Right off the bat, Ocean Chevy said it would be $95 to find out what was wrong and if it was the gas cap, they would give me a new one for free, but I still would have to pay the $95 to find out.
This Aveo has caused me more problems and cost me more money than an expensive car. GM really does not stand behind their products and could not care less that a senior, who purchased a new car in good faith, get ripped off everytime he turns around. If anything else goes wrong with this car, I cannot afford to get it fixed. Ocean Chevy are money hungry sneaky people who prey on seniors. I really want to take this further and publisize what they do to this mostly senior community.
I am out over $2,500 for a 2 1/2 year old car and Ocean Chevy and GM pretty much said Too Bad in so many words.
