I have a 2002 Nissan Altima. The car had dark oil on the car lot when we purchased the car, but we just thought they forgot to change the oil and we requested to have the oil changed and they did that. I am very good about changing the oil and checking all the fluids. We have always had to change the oil way before it was due. We mentioned this to the dealer on several recalls. They tell us they don't know why this is happening.
Not sure of the date it started happening, but now we are adding oil and antifreeze. No one could find out where the oil and antifreeze were going, not even after the 1st diagnostic test. I left the care all night to have it tested. This has been going on for years and we wanted to find out the cause, because we had a bumper to bumper warranty up until July of 2009.
Two weeks ago we took the car to have it diagnosed again, because it is getting worse and the check engine light is on. Finally, this repair center found the reason-we need a head gasket, a bad head, etc. So now I am researching, and I find a website -car complaints.com and boy are there many complaints about the same thing. It is not right what Nissan is getting away with. Even the Nissan Dealer we go to in RI denied there was anything wrong with my car. The service manager said he didn't know anything about it. No problems with this car.
Shame on Nissan. My car would probably be worse if I was not always checking it from the beginning. Many other people on the computer are having even worse problem. Something needs to be done about this. As far a I know there is not recall and if there is a class action suite I don't know about it either. I will not stop until I find out what is going on.
I am on a fixed income and cannot afford another car or the repairs needed. Nor do I know if I did this if it would fix the problem. Others I have read about have still had many problems after fixing what they tell is wrong. As I talk to people I am finding more and more problems. Someone I work with has the same car and has spent 3400.00 to have hers fixed-It need a new motor.
