Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I was looking for a particular camera around Christmas and found it on Amazon.com. When I chose the camera (Canon Powershot SD890 IS Digital Elph), I was shown other vendors and their prices. This one caught my eye as it was cheaper. I assumed since it was on Amazon it was lagit. Big lesson learned there! I was told the camera would be $186.00 when I made the purchase online. The shipping was free.

Later the following day I received a call from a man stating he was confirming my order. He then told me that I would have to purchase a battery and SD card for the camera. I asked why it doesn't come with it like anywhere else and he didn't have an answer. Then he gave me a pitch of why I needed this outrageously expensive battery or my camera wouldn't work properly. Ultimately, this camera cost me $314.50! That is more than I would have paid at the store. I was not given a total when the man abruptly hung up.

I received my camera and accessories in the mail a few days later and was charged for the purchase. This is a total bait and switch company. When I contacted them they ignored me. I have sent them email and when I call they say I must speak with a manager and they aren't avaialable.

I have paid more for this camera than it is worth! I am not even certain it is new. The pictures are not the quality I would expect from this camera.

Ordered a Toshiba LCD TV (40XF550U). Placed order online then was contacted to confirm my shipping address for the order and was told the stand didn't come with the TV and it would be another $100.00. Made many calls after that to confirm shippment of the TV but was told nurmous times tomorrow I'm ready to cancel my order and call my bank to cancel the charge on my account. Don't purchase ANYTHING from these idoits.

Time tracking my order and was subjected to the bait and switch on this purchase

I only wish I could rate them lower. Where do I start. I just ordered a Canon FS100 from the prestigecamera website because it had a lower price and free shipping. I get an email saying they are required to speak to me to verify my billing information. I call the number and I wait about 15 minutes until someone answers. The guy who answers grunted. He did not even say any proper greeting or greeting for that matter. I inform him that I received an email to verify my information.

He looks up my order number and then immediatly goes into a high pressure sales pitch. He says he can include a high capacity battery for an additional $89. I say no thank you, I just want the camcorder and nothing else. He says it does not come with a battery so I will need to buy a battery from them. I said just send me the camera without the battery. He then tells me it will take 4 weeks beacause it will have to be shipped from overseas. I ask him why would it take 4 weeks to ship the camcorder without the battery versus I can get it overnnighted with one of their batterys? He did not want to answer and did not answer my question I cancelled my order. DO NOT DO business with them. Beyond poor customer service!! The worst ever!!!

I had to cancel the order and hope that they do not charge my credit card.

they are advertizing Samsung LN52A750 for $1590.00 and Samsung LN-46A750 for $1308.00. I placed the order and paid with my credit card. Then they send me email to call in to confirm the order, which I did. During the call they tried to sell me the additional parts wich are part of the standard package of the products sold in US. When I refused to pay extra to be total of $3700.00, they canceled my order.

A week ago Monday 11/3/08 I placed an order on at the Prestige Camera web site for the Canon Rebel xsi digital camera. According to the web site it was in stock. The next day11/4 I got a call saying that they wanted to verify my mailing address. When I returned the call the man with whom I spoke (he did identify himself) proceeded to try and sell me a battery at a very steep price by telling me that the battery that comes with the camera only lasts a few minutes.

Once he realizr=ed I was not interested in purchasing a battery he tried to sell me an sd card. I told him I already had one. He responded by telling me the camera took a special card. I refused to buy anything more and after great length he told me I would have the camera in 5 days. One week later there was no camera and the store is in Brooklyn. On 11/10 I called the automated number to check on my order but got a message that the order number did not exist. I went to the stores web site and logged onto my account, to my surprise I found a message stating that the camera was on back order.

I immediately called the store and insisted that they cancel the order. The man was condescending and spoke to me as if I were an idiot. He told me my confirmation number was c like in kangaroo and n like in knife followed by the original order number I was given (the same number the automated system said did not exist). Needless to say I have been on the web site these past 2 days and they continue to advertise the camera as in stock.

My mom ordered the Pentax K200D camera on 7-26-2008 from prestigecamera.com. We specifically made sure to get the order in that day because there was a $100 rebate from Panasonic that ended that day (we had been on vacation or we would have ordered sooner). I saw the site was secure from McAfee (was actually linked to the store from McAfee) and so my mom placed the order. The next morning she had received an email requiring her to call to confirm before they could ship. We didn't think much of it at first.

She tried calling one & got a machine so she left a message as it told her to and her call was never returned so a few hours later she tried again (we were very excited to get the camera so we didn't want to miss it). She got someone who was impossible to understand through his accent. She confirmed the order & then he tried to sell her battiers, SD cards, card readers, a tripod, lens cleaner, etc - all of which we had. He assured her she couldn't have the right stuff and she assured him it wasn't the first digital camera we owned. Not even the first pentax camera ever.

So then she asked if since they hadn't processed the order yesterday if the rebate would still be good. That's when he said there was no rebate for this camera as it was a Japanese!! Since then I've double & triple checked that the page didn't tell me it was Japanese & it doesn't. I did find after reading every bit of fine print on their site that in ONE place it mentions the difference between grey market & US models (saying there is no difference! - I beg to differ, if my camera came with a menu in Japanese I wouldn't be able to use it since I have absolutely no knowledge of the Japanese language) No where did I find that they sell grey market items.

Then the man on the phone told my mom she could get the US camera for $579 (we were supposed to get the Japanese one for $443). Since the warranty had expired & I was beginning to get very upset from the little bit of the conversation I was hearing, I told her to cancel and she did. That was only 6 hours ago and I'm making sure to do everything I can to help keep others from making the same mistake. This business has 12 different websites, and there was nothing to be found against them on the BBB (but I assure you I just filed a complaint there as well). I'll be talking to a Pentax rep this week to let them know. Their website says it's fraudulent to buy outside of your own area and since they have a US location - Prestige Camera shouldn't be getting Japanese versions of the camera. Now because of them we've missed out on saving the $100 on the camera. If we had known that we'd have ordered from Amazon.com - the camera would have ended up being $550 after rebate, but that's better than the $650 it is now. I'm just hoping another rebate becomes available closer to Christmas or something.

Because of this store we'vemissed out on the $100 rebate. $100 We don't have to spend so we are having to wait in hopes of saving a bit later for the camera.

1) Sold me a S5IS camera that would not ship unless I ordered their Christmas package of un-needed extras for another $90.00. Could ship that package immediately but NOT the S5IS as a stand alone camera.
They kept me waiting for 2 weeks and after several calls gave me the 6-8 week backorder story. A typical bait and switch scheme with little integrity.

Could not get the camera on time for gifting.
Wasted time and had no intention of ever making good on the order.

The only thing they were quick about was to place the charge on my credit card

I purchased a camera on www.prestigecamera.com. I got a call from their customer service confirming the order. The CSR I talk to is Bernard. He offer me to upgrade to a package with an extra battery. I told him I will call him back in 5 minutes and let him know. I call him back and told him I just wanted to stay with the camera that I order online. He said okay. When I receive the package I got the camera and the extra battery.

I called Prestige Camera on Oct 19 let them know I order the camera only and the csr denied and said I don't believe that mama. He also said if I want just the camera, I would have to return the whole package, paid for 5% restocking, and shipping. Then if I want just the camera I have to repurchase just the camera. I told him I am not paying for the 5% restocking or shipping for something they make a mistake on. He denied everything. Therefore, I told him unless he agrees on paying me back the full amount and return shipping or I will keep the items and dispute with my credit card company. I then check online and found many similar complaints on their company.

Purchased an Epson PowerLite S4 online for $565.00 excluding shipping and tax. According to the website in the included accessories portion of the advertisement were a remote control and 1 year limited warranty. Then Prestige Camera sent me an email to verify billing information and stated that I needed to purchase a remote control and that the warranty was only for 90 days. Thinking it was an oversight on my part I agreed to the remote control which was an extra 79.99 and warranty 29.99. I received the merchandise the next day and the invoice came to $793.85.

I went back on the website and on their product information page it clearly states that it comes with a remote control and 1 year limited warranty. He also wanted to sell me a carrying case but I said no and it came with one anyway. Prestige Camera claims that all those accessories come only when you upgrade the package. Yet on the product information page it does not state anything about an upgrade and how much the difference will be. This is misrepresentation and bait and switch.

It took more than half an hour to get someone on the phone and they are very rude.

The company is on a very limited budget at the moment and this is also a negative reflection on my position.
