Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I ordered a video camera from techondigital for what I thought was a great price until a representative called and talked me into buying a warranty, battery and charger for more than what it would cost if I went somewhere else. I was also promised a full-sized tri-pod and a video camera case.

I received a table top sized tri-pod and a case that was defective. I contacted techondigital.com and a representative advised that he would send me the full-sized tri-pod and a new case. I also complained about the price of the battery and charger. The representative advised that he would add to the warranty I received. I never heard from techondigital again.

Now, when searching for their site online I come up with numerous complaints from various consumers who have also had the same experience with techondigital. I would like to file an official complaint and receive some type of compensation for this "scam". Thank you for your consideration.

As mentioned in previous complaints, they do sucker you into a sales pitch to buy additional equipment. However, I was prepared for this since saying no a few times is worth saving $60. What they don't tell you is that the camera is so cheap because it is the grey versions and all of the menus are in Japanese. I immediately cancelled my order upon hearing this and before I could ask for a confirmation number they hung up on me. I am very surprised this company has yet to be sued or closed down.

Great price on the web. I ordered the camera A couple of days later, I was called with a 'concern' that I didn't have enough supporting equipment. Concern soon became a hard sell. Hard sell became abuse. These people are at least aggressive, possibly criminal and potentially downright insane. Beware

Oct. 3, 2008 I ordered online a Garmin nuvi 650, paying with a M/C for $159.00. Received an email with instructions to call 1-877 to confirm order ASAP and Order ID. I called the number and William could not speak clear English, but was pushy about a memeory card which I told him I already had. Then he told me that the installed maps were 2005 vintage, and would that he would sell me the Garmin update maps for 2008 and also 2009 for $70.00.

However, the email invoce shows an $8.49 shipping fee which must have been obsorbed into the $70.00 figure, which made a total of $229.00 on my CC. To this, I agreed, but have not yet been able to update the maps without paying Garmin their fee. I've not pursued a refund which I consider totally futile. I did receive the Garmin and it works OK, and I still have the printed email and online order printout. The CC charge was from Camera Wiz, Inc. Once bit, but not twice!

This experience does irritate me immensely; enough so to register this complain with the Missouri Attorney General's office. Insofar as damages are concerned, only the $70.00 theft.

I made an online camera order (Canon Powershot SD 880IS) advertised for $179.99 + shipping. I did not order anything else-just the camera. On the website, the item was stated as being In Stock. When I placed the order (meaning gave all of my credit card information including the security code from the back of the card), I received 3 email messages. The first was a confirmation/receipt for my order (total $187.49). The 2nd was a notice with a phone number and extension asking me to call to confirm my order.

Then a few seconds later, as I was in the process of dialing the above number, I received another email stating my order has been cancelled because it was now suddenly out of stock. It stated I would receive an email in 6-8 weeks when and if it comes back in stock. I had the feeling that this all seemed quite fishy, so today I called to try to purchase the camera via phone order. This time, they attempted to sell me multiple very expensive items to go with the camera (extra SD card, extra battery-all totalling over $300!) I was not expecting to spend so much money, so as I began to turn down the offer because I could not afford that much, they started trying to make me a deal to remove shipping costs and even sell me a cheaper camera (lower version of the Canon Powershot). I had done my research on cameras prior to purchasing so I knew the things they were trying to feed were untrue and turned down the offers. At the end, he gave me his extension to call him after I had thought about it more. Not to be insulting, but he sounded like quite the sleezy salesman!

Well, I was smart enough to not take the fishy smelling offer, so there was no damage, however, I think this company needs to be reported as they are pulling a bait and switch and others will fall victim to this. Others may have already been scammed by them. Also, if I had decided to wait the 6-8 weeks for this camera to come back into stock, I might have lost out on other, better deals out there. It seems that this is false advertising also. I mean, they advertised the camera for $179 and said it was in stock on the website ( and it clearly is in stock because on the phone, the salesman was ready and willing to sell me one right then and there!) There should be consequences for this-they should be penalized in some manner. Thank you.

Ordered a camera on line at a great price after I CONFIRMED WITH TECHONDIGITAL that it came with an American warranty (not gray market). Their ad said nothing about their products being gray market. After I placed the order, I got a confirmation e-mail said that I needed to call to confirm. They called me first and I was pressured to buy a very expensive 5 hour battery that I didn't want and a 2 GB memory card that was also very overpriced. Salesman lied and said that the battery that comes with the camera will only last 20 minutes. He kept the pressure on to buy the add-ons which I refused. Finally, he told me he would sell me the gray market camera. I said, "whoa", I was told the camera came with an American warranty. He said no so I cancelled the order right there. In my opinion, this company is not one that you should do business with.

Ordered a camera yesterday online at a great price. Confirmation email said that I needed to call to confirm. When I called, I was pressured to buy a very expensive 5 hour battery that I didn't want. Salesman lied and said that the battery that comes with the camera will only last 20 minutes. He wouldn't sell me the camera at the price listed unless I bought the expensive battery accessory. In my opinion, this company is not one that you should want to do business with.

I placed an on line order on Nov. 17 for a Fujifilm camera S8100 along with two items. The next day I got calls that I had to return to confirm my order. When I reached James he started into a sales pitch that I had to have a special 2gb memory card at the special price of $157.00 for this camera to take over 30 pictures. Then the told me that I had to have some special batteries at $129.00 for four. I told him I did not want either at this time he said the order would come in two packages and would ship next day then. I have yet to see either as of 11/26/2008. I have tryed to contact TechonDigital and they will not answer my Emails and put me on hold when I call and will not return to the phone.

I have had to cancel a credit card to protect my credit

I ordered a garmen gps for $165.00,model 680 on nov 7.Ireceived a email confirming the order and a order number.I was instructed to call them on sunday to confirm my order. I called them on Sunday and they oked the transaction. I gave them my credit card #,then the salesmen tried to sell me a$90.00 memory card. After telling him I wasn!t interested he kept lowering the price.I refused and he hung up on me. I waited and called back to see if I was still going to get the gps.I got a different salesmen and tried to lower the price of the card lower.I informed himI wasn't interested.I asked him if they were going to ship the gps and he said yes.On Frtiday the 14 I received a Email informing me they were out of stock for at least 6to 8 weekes and the were cancelling my order.ON Sunday Nov 16 I saw them on web site for $189.00 in stock. They should be turned over to the Attorney generals office

I was going to use it on a trip next week. Now he has my credit card number.

I ordered a Kodak Z1012IS on Friday night 11/7/08,for the best price I found on the internet, $179.00. I received an email on Saturday to confirm my order on Sunday. I did so on Sunday afternoon as they are closed on Saturday. I asked if it was a new camera, and was told emphatically YES. I didn't ask if it was made in the USA as some others I read did. I was then given the "high pressure sales pitch" for all these unnecessary accessories.

I almost gagged when he told me a price for a SD card that I can get in WalMart for under $30.00, their price was $179.00, which was more than the price for the camera. I was told that the memory in the camera would only allow for two pictures and that the batteries wouldn't last but 10 minutes and that it didn't take standard AA batteries. I did not let him get the better of me and told him, NO I do not need any accessories, just send the camera. I asked when I could expect it, assuming I'd be receiving it by this past Friday, 11/14/08, he told me 7 to 10 days. I thought that was a bit unusual as I've dealt with a very reputable photo shop online and they get me my merchandise within 3 days. I received an email on Friday 11/14/08 and it is as follows:

We thank you for your order and appreciate you shopping with us .

Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding ."

I just checked their site and to my "surprise?" (NOT!!!) they are still advertising the very same camera and lo and behold it's "AVAILABLE". These people are the lowest of low, and should be shut down, and thrown in jail for their deceptive sales practices. Where are the "internet" police? I'm so glad that I found this site with all these complaints and did not order from them again. This is a gift for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. I would have been mortified if I received this obvious piece of crap that they are professing to be "NEW".
What happens now to my credit card information that they've got? I'll be making sure I check that daily to make sure there are no unexpected charges on that and will be alerting my credit card company and making them aware of their deceptive deals.

I hope more people find this site and read our warnings about this shady operator trying to dupe us out of our hard earned money.

Viewed an excellent price on a panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28 digital camera at techondigital. Price seemed too good to be true so I called and confirmed that the camera was new with a US warranty and they said of course as it was advertised. I ordered online the next day and got an email to confirm my order. When I called I was told I needed these accessories such as memory cards and additional batteries at overinflated prices. When I refused they quickly told me the camera was gray market and had no warranty with a manual written in Japanese.

This was clearly a bait and switch. The web site advertised as brand new with a 1 year warranty. This is not only deceptive but illegal as it was false advertising. How do these companies continue to operate? I will be contacting the state attorneys office in New York and have already filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Serving Metropolitan New York. I urge all of you who have had the same experience to do the same. Only action on the part of consumers will close down these scam artist businesses!

TechonDIGITAL is a SCAM e-business site. Unfortunately, I did not read the numerous posts of warning by readers prior to attempting to purchase a GARMIN 7200.

An attempt was made to pressure me into purchasing a memory card and an updated map far above market value. I declined both. (I recorded the conversation and will supply it to New York authorities.) The conversation concluded with, Enjoy your Garmin. I thought I would receive it. How naive I was.!!!

Three days later I received this e-mail from TechonDIGITAL canceling my order:We thank you for your order and appreciate you shopping with us .

Due to the product you ordered being out of stock for 6-8 weeks from today's date. We regret to inform you that the order is canceled due to the product being on backorder. when or if we get the product again in stock soon will send you an email to place an order please do not resubmit your order again . sorry again and thanks for your understanding .(The poor English and errors in punctuation are TechonDIGITAL's. not mine. What a professional company!!! NOT!!!)

Conclusion: If one does not buy accessories at above-market prices, one will not receive the item. One's order will be canceled. Offering the lowest price is a SCAM to sucker you into their website. Now they have my name, address, telephone number, credit card number, security code number and e-mail address. There are, literally, hundreds of complaints that can be used to litigate this company.

On 8/21/08 bought a Nikon D 60 from Techon digital for $ 379-received a phone call from them as soon as I had placed the order, the man was insisting that I needed all these other idems, the final bill was $924.95.

On 10/26/08 the camera froze I called Nikon they adviced me to sent them the camera since it's still under factory warrentee. Nikon then informed me that the camera was not made in USA and is probably counterfit and that they cant fix it even for a fee. I called Techon digital. I was hang opon twice after I said my camera broke and reported what I learned from Nikon. The third time the man listened and then said: if you broke your camera there is nothing we can do you need to call nikon, they have to fix it they made it. I asked for the original invoice to be e-mailed . five minutes after huging up he called back and said he felt sorry for me so he was going to give me 200 dollar warrantee that would show up on the invoice because otherwise nikon would not fix it and he hopes that I appreciate him doing this for me.

I did received an invoice , not from Techon digital but from The Camera Whiz Inc. All idems were lumped together as package and no no 200 dollar free .warentee

I gave up, it's obvious that trying to deal with them is a waste of energy.

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM TECHON DIGITAL...AKA: THE CAMERA WHIZ!!! Bait and switch scam. Got heavily deceptive sales preasure to buy accessories. When I declined, I was informed that this was not a USA model camera.Canceled my order upon reciept of camera and camera case labelled value pack. Did NOT ordered the value pack sent to me. Camera Case was NOT what I ordered either. Ordered on line from TechOnDigital but got bill and camera sent to me from THE CAMERA WHIZ under a different order number. GO figure. Decpetive business practices across states' line, decpetive use of telecommunications across states' lines need to be investigateb by Federal Trade Commision, US Attorney General, NY Attorney General, and BBB. Contacted customer service and got hung up on See for yourself and give them a call at 877-425-9933 stand by for rude, deceptive, and unethical business practices.

Stopped credit card payment to them. Out $15 for returning value pack I did not order from The Camera Whiz. Very concern what they will ow do with my credit card number they have. Rip off artists.

I ordered a garmin 205 at the advertised price of $135.00. James called and told me that it needed a very good sd card to make it run properly. I told him that it did not need the sd card to run. I own a 205 now and it works fine without an sd card.

4 hours later I received an e-mail. They canceled my order because they have been out of stock for 6 weeks and asked me not to re-order. I checked their website and the Garmin 205 is still available at $135.00

Iwas using the internet to place an order for a camera (Canon EOS Digital REbel x Si). Wow the prices for this camera was way low for both these companies so I tried TechonDigital first. It was pretty straight forward at first then the 'used car salesman' approach started. The last thing he said was the camera would take 5-6 weeks to come. I cancelled the order. The I read about the various online camera dealers. Foto Connection had fair ratings so I placed an order online.

Again I had to call the next day to confirm. The salesmen were much 'softer' but after a week of not hearing from them, I called back. Now they tell me I ordered the 'internet' special and it was a camera body only but for an extra $100.00 I could get the lens. I cancelled that order too. A few months ago I ordered a small cam cord on line......got it in a few day..no problems. I'm buying the camera locally as I don't feel comfortable with these dealers. Thanks for listening.

I ordered a Sony DSC T-700/h camera on this website. I received confirmation of my order. I received another email asking me to contact james. James proceeded to try and get me to upgrade to another battery for lots of $$$. I declined. James then stated that my order was being shipped. Twice I was notified my order was being shipped and then I received the last email that my order was canceled. I went back to the website and noticed the camera price was raised from $279 to $319.

They sold me 6 Garmin GPS units that I was told by both people I spoke with were all brand new. The are not, some I could not register because it said it was already registered, some showed the fist satellite acquisition was made in August of last year. Obviously they lied. I haven't heard from Garmin yet as to whether I can register these units or not. I fail to understand, after reading all of these complaints, how New York allows these people to stay in business.

$863 dollars for supposedly new merchandise which is obviously used, and I may not have warranty coverage for.

Typical - Ordered Canon S5 IS from Techon at a $259 price, and of course they wanted me to purchase a number of accessories at inflated prices, so they cancelled the order telling they did not have camera in stock, so camera order was cancelled by them.

I ordered a camera from these people, they called me back & cajoled me into buying extra accessories. I also paid for upgraded shipping. When the package arrived there was no camera - just the accessories & a credit card charge slip for these at an overpriced rate. I had understood that these would be included in the camera sale at a reduced rate. I now have these useless accessories & no camera

I had order (2) digital cameras on their website. I had input all my information including Name, Number, Address, E-mail Address, and Credit Card info. I had received an e-mail saying "Please call james from our order confirmation department at ext: 201 to confirm your order at 800-." I contacted Jason and was informed that the item I was buying was a grey market item. It was never mentioned on the website or in a previous phone call that the item was grey market.

Jason proceeded to tell me he had USA version of the camera instead of the Japanese version he was trying to sell me; however the price was $219 instead of the $179.00. I informed Jason I wanted to cancel the order however he proceeded to negotiate the price. Through out the phone call, Jason, began asking personal question. He asked were in NY I was from and the he asked my age. He even asked if he could take me out and asked me to e-mail me a picture of myself to him. He was about to give me his e-mail address when I told him no, I won't send my picture, at the same time the negotiation of the price had stopped and the phone call was ended.

This company is not a legit company. I had a fellow coworker call and file a complaint on my behalf and the supervisor at the time would not listen to the complaint and called us a liar and said we were making up excuses. Please do something about this company they are unprofessional and disrespectful to women. I don't have an address of the company, except that Jason told me he was from Brooklyn, NY. I had to cancel my credit card.

I ordered a Canon Powershot S5IS camera on their website March 16, 2008. That was a Sunday morning. I was told I'd get a confirmation email and I would have to respond to complete the order.

I barely got out of church when my cell phone rang. The called me. And like all the other stories I've been reading the sales guy was very pushy, when I tried standing strong and resist he kept telling me my Canon camera would not work properly with a regular SD card. And the one they offered was I think $149.00. I told them I'd take my chance and go to Wal-mart. They said they don't have the fast card I'd need to make my camera work properly. I didn't really believe them but the way he kept pushing I begin to doubt. He added a camera bag and a so called tripod. I told them OK but if I find out the information not to be true I'd be calling back.

Well we checked with Wal-mart and they had different ones under $30.00 and bigger. So I called them back they not only gave me a bigger for cheaper ($103.00) threw in what was supposed to be the best batteries and charger. So my camera which was supposed to be $250.00 ended up with shipping $433.00. I tried to get them to take it back down to just the camera but they really were insistant. I gave in :+(

I didn't even get my camera the next day as promised and paid for. $65.00!

When I got the camera it came from The Camera Whiz INC. I like other customers have learned that Canon does include a small SD card that will work just fine. I emailed Canon and asked them about the cards and their reply to me was genetric and said there camera could use different cards. I don't remember all now but basically they were staying out of it.

I have tried several times to contact via email Techondigital to complain about the whole situation, I don't want to talk to any more pushy salesguy), but
no one ever gets back. In fact the email I sent was refused and deleted without reading and a message sent back to me.

I REALLY WAS UPSET WITH THEIR SERVICE!

I believe the Canon camera to be a new one and it is great. I just hated the service I got from the company I purchased it from whoever they want to call themselves.

The price of my camera with all the inflated prices of accessories they supposedly threw in to compensate was still not enough. I ordered a camera online for $250.00 and that's all I should have had to pay for.

I did not receive a tripod and wide-angle lens that were promised upon purchase of a certain amount of accessories.

Placed an order for a Garmin Nuvi 370 GPS. When I called to verify order, they insisted I buy an overpriced memory card, saying the GPS would not function without it. (Not true). When I finally asked if they would not sell the item to me without the memory card, they said no. After a few moments of silence, he said it was a japanese model and if I wanted the american instruction book it would be $419.00 (the origianl price was $325.00). At that point I told them to cancell the order, which he did. It appears that is what he wanted when I would not purchase more items. This is a cunsumer fraud/scam. Someone should do something!!

I placed online order for digital camera with Techondigital.com. I was contacted later in the day and offered chance to buy accessories for the camera. When I declined, the male caller became annoyed and told me I was getting a grey market camera with no US warranty. He said I would have to send it to Japan to get it fixed if it broke. If I wanted a US camera with US warranty he said he would throw it in but only if I bought accessories like battery, memory card and camera case. I refused and he said he was canceling my order.

False advertising and I now have to contact my credit card company to make sure order was canceled. I am also concerned as they have my credit card information now!

This company operates under at least 9 names, and they scam you by sending only a portion of what you order, tack on impossible return deadlines, etc. I see all the complaints, and we are filing a complaint and request for investigation by the New York Attorney General's office. We also reported the matter as fraud to our Visa carrier. These guys are very bad news, and I hope that the consumer protection and/or criminal authorities shut them down for good.

Placed an internet order with Techondigital for an Olympus 830 digital camera. I received an email to call and confirm my order. I called, and Scott was extremely pushy--talking over me, interrupting me, telling me I was being rude by not buying the extra battery because the battery it comes with only lasts 20 min. I tried to explain I didn't want anything else, only the camera. He again accused me of being rude. I calmly told him no, he was the rude one because he was not listening to what I was saying. He started his pitch again and I hung up. Three days later I received an email telling me my camera was back-ordered for 6-8 weeks, and my order was canceled. Needless to say, the website has no back-order listed for that camera. These people are atrocious!

I am extremely angry about this. So far there are no odd charges to my debit card, which I am getting a new number for tomorrow.

I bought a camera from Techondigital, a Canon A650IS. When I called to confirm the order (863986) the customer service rep tried to talk me into buying a Ultra 6 hi-speed digital card. I told the rep that I had one and didnt need to buy his. He told me that I was lying and cancelled the order.

I used the WHOIS database and contacted the owner, Eric Tursan. He told me that the reason for the cancellation is that the camera is out of stock and to check the website. This is unfair and against any business practice laws. When I purchased the camera it was in stock; they cannot all of a sudden claim it is not. Also - when I called they were ready to send the camera - until I did not agree to buy the Ultra 6 card.

I needed this caera for Christmas - my partner bought it for me for my birthday. I am very upset, had a migraine headache due to this and threw up. I am also traumatized by this incident and will have to buy a camera at a higher price before Christmas.

I spent a lot of time looking for the best price for an Olympus 790 camera and found it on Techondigital.com. It was at least $25 lower than any others. I ordered online and received a message to call within 24 hours to confirm the order. I thought this was odd and didn't call because I received a confirmation online. The next evening I received a phone call from someone from the company telling me that I really should buy the additional battery pack. I told him that I only wanted the camera as I found the battery $40 cheaper on another site. I was assured that the camera would be sent out the next day.

Today I receive an email telling me that the camera is back ordered and my order has been canceled. Why wasn't I told that when I was asked to buy the battery? I will be checking with my credit card company to see that I have been credited. I truly believe that this is a scam. If you don't order the over-priced accessories you don't get the camera!
