First National Bank of South Dakota

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I was sent a First National Bank Card that offered me an unsecured $450 dollar limit of credit. All that I had to do was call the 1-800 number provided and give them the card number to activate the card. I was told of a monthly fee that would go along with use of the card. Since I had never had a credit card before I went along with what they had told me figuring that I could help build up my credit and then get rid of the card when I had better offers.
Unfortunately when I received my first statement in the mail I found that all but $20 had been used out of the $450 limit; these charges were for a one time activation fee. So along with that I was now caught up in a card that had no credit left on it, a monthly fee, and annual fee and a high interest rate. I used the card once before receipt of my first statement to pay for a tank of gas for my car which the card covered but when the statement did come I was surprised with owing almost the entire limit of the card.

I paid my first couple monthly fees but then I stopped. I was mad that I was now having to pay back all of this money never having spent it except the tank of gas, and even after the first couple of monthly statements were payed I had payed back more then I had spent. So now I owe $750 + from fees buliding up and not paying for the one time fees.

They sent me a card, and on my first statement had $380.00 owed on it with a $27.00 credit amount left. I was stupid and agreed to the charges because i need to help my credit. Well my monthly bill is $30.00. Then come to find out they also charge two different amount on your bill first is an interest rate which is between $5-$10.00 and a monthly fee of $5.00 so the only amount you have left is about $20.00 or less. I was very unhappy with this card and wish I never got it. I'm paying almost $400.00 on nothing.

I opened a VISA account with this bank with a credit limit of $375.00. They charge $199.00 processing fee, and $149.00 setup fee. I don't find this a problem, due to my non-perfect credit. This left me with $22 available credit. On 01-16-2001 I sent a Wells Fargo Certified Cashiers check for $250.00 to to First National Bank. This check had been cashed on 01-19-2000. My First payment of $30.00 was due on 1-20-2000.

On 01-20-2000 i attempted to use the card for a $20.00 purchase, and was declined. I called the customer service number, and it said my available credit was $22.00 and no payments have been received. I again attempted to call again on 01-21-2000, and the automated machine stated the account was invalid, so I am assuming the account was closed for some reason. Now I am out $250.00, which to me is a large amount, due to my lack of income.

I was sent a letter stating that I needed to send money or call to make arrangements. I called and set up a payment arrangement. During this time, without notification, they charged off my credit card stating that the person I spoke with had no authority to make such arrangements with me. No one at the card center will talk to me.

The collection department has told me that the card should not have been charged off and that I should speak to a supervisor, but no supervisor will talk to me. I no longer have my Visa card instead I have a negative account on my credit report

On 7/24/00 I sent a money order, via mail, in the amount of $22;.00 for a visa credit card. On 9/05/00, I sent a second payment in the amount of $66.00. Further, I have included my e-mail address per companies request, and have not received no response in any way, shape, or form.

I needed the credit card to help purchase a vehicle. I was informed that if I mailed them the money, I would receive a credit card in three weeks of about $500.OO. I have been waiting over three months. I had to borrow money from neighbors and my mother. This is very degrading as, I was convinced that they were going to keep their end of the bargain. Not only did I not get my car, I was left with no food for a bit due to not having any money

Previously I contacted you to tell you that this bank offered me a card for $19 and said it would give me up to $1,000 if I sent them the completed form along with the $19. I ended up with a ACE kit that cost me $359.95 and I knew nothing about that kit until I went to access the card.

I later made three payments and each month sent extra amounts over what they requested. Each month the payments were made on time and with the extra amounts I paid my credit with them should have for all intensive purposes should have been A+++.

In the first two months I charged about $78 and my first three payments totalled $120. When I went to use the card the third month the charge was denied. This was ridiculous and embarrassing. At that time my balance was approximately $360 and I was only trying to charge $20 plus some change. But was denied as I stated earlier.

Now they are saying my balance is $598 although I have not charged or been able to charge anything and I am refusing to make any more payments for something I can't even use. I think you should be able to understand that statement.

This is driving me nuts. I don't trust anyone, I have now been turned down for things I have been able to get in the past and all of this frustration is just driving me mad. I really am at a loss as to what it is I should be doing.
