National Consumer CouncilTelemarketing Calls

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Received an unsolicited telemarketing call. A pre-recorded message, offered assistance with poor credit or mortgage difficulties. The call provided a telephone number 1-800-990-3990at the end of the message. Pre-recorded call that I could not disconnect or end until it played through. Very annoying and insensitive. I do not have poor credit. I do not have a mortgage.

I received an unsolicited sales call from this organization. The have registered as a nonprofit and claim exemption from the do-not-call list. In addition, it was a pre-recorded message using an auto dialer. These are illegal.

Telemarketing call from National Consumer Council. Left a long voice mail on my phone. Why would anyone in their right mind deal with someone like this? There are local "legitimate" Credit Counceling Services in every City/County.

Received numerous unsolicited recorded phone calls during all hours of the day and evening. On January 10, 2004 they phoned me again with a pre-recorded offer saying they had my credit card records and could "definitely help you" get out from underneath heavy credit card debt through counseling and debt assumption. Part of their deal is an offer to transfer credit card debt to their organization at an interest rate of 4.25%.

I returned the unsolicited call on January 10 and talked to Zima who told me their organization is non-profit and their calls are legal under the new federal do-not-call law, since they are "non-profit." Their calls are annoying, disruptive, and intrusive. Consumers can call their 800 and request to be dropped from their list.

Today, I again received a call at 11 a.m. from a man on a recording telling me my information is in a data bank, and offering me assistance with reducing payments, etc. For months I have been receiving the same call at least weekly and occasionally more often -- up to several a day. When I receive unsolicited calls such as this, whether live or a recording, I put the phone down until it signals the caller has hung up. Today, for the first time I copied the 800 phone number, and called back to ask that my name and number be taken off their list.
