I need help in dealing with my local dentist Dr. Barry L. Cohan in Brooklyn and I hope you will help me. I have been billed and paid for an inlay that was placed in my tooth three times by four different dentists in the same office. After the inlay was placed in, first I went back with excruciating pain. The tooth was filling down; I went back two other times with the inlay in my hand. It just came out. I was told to consider a cap after I paid $1,285 for the inlay. The price quote for the cap was outrageous and I said I could not afford it. The inlay came out once more and the dentist who worked on me that day told me that the inlay is no good, all I need is just a filing and he did just that. The inlay was thrown out. When I complained to Dr. Cohan, he told me I will not be charged for this visit.
My husband been going there also, since November 2009, he was forced by Dr. Cohan to have 3 implants and repair a front tooth with inlay. He was quoted $2,000 per implants and $1,285 for the front tooth inlay. The work was to be completed before the holidays of 2009. The front tooth was filled down two times once by Dr. Cohan and the other time by Dr. Kampf. From November 2009 to June 2010, nothing was done except for the rods implants. For each subsequent visit thereafter, imprints were taking. With each visit, something was always wrong with the Lab or the dentists. I spoke with Dr. Cohan regarding a $4,112.10 bill I received from Dr. Kampf, and his replied was that Dr. Kampf is mental and if we had giving him any payments, we should contact our lawyers to get the money back since the office will bill us for the service. In the meantime, we were billed and paid $7,295.50 to the office by insurance, care credit and checks.
When my husband demand to have the work completed in May 2010 during a schedule visit, Dr. Cohan claimed that our insurance has not paying him any recent bill and we max out on care credit. We need to pay him $9,000 before he does any work. My husband called me home to come over. When we ask for our charts and a detail billing, he claims that our chats are lost. He gave us a tally bill sheet, and sarcastically explained that $2,000 per implants quote was for the rods implants and there is now a $1,970 per tooth that we are been billed for.
He demanded payment on the new balance of $9,922.10 balance. My husband asked him to complete the front tooth which he claimed that the lab was in. He demanded a payment and we said we will pay the visit with our credit card. He told my husband the new dentist that just started will take care of him. The inlay did not fit and the new dentist which is the third for my husband said that he needed to start all over again by filling the front tooth down again and took new imprints. My husband demanded to speak with Dr. Cohan and we were told he is gone for the day.
Months later, on August 18, 2010, Dr Cohan calls our house at 10PM and asked my husband to return to the office to complete the work. When my husband questions him about the way we were treated the last time in his office, he got angry. My husband told him then he doesn't want him as his dentist. Then he demanded $500 for both of us to close our account or he will garnish our credit. What can we do? I think he owes us instead. How can I fill a complaint? Any suggestion, please help. I have paper works to support my claim. Please advice. Thank you.
