My son was admitted to Westchester Medical Center's Emergency room with severe abdominal pain 6/9/08. Westchester Medical Center is a participating provider with my health care plan, Blue Cross Blue Shield. I have received a bill for $691 from a physician I do not know , for observation, discharge and pulse oximetry. This doctor (who works at Westchester medical Center), Edward Jarvis, does not participate with Blue Cross. How am I supposed to know that ?
My insurance company applied the amount ($691) to my out of network deductable. Westchester Medical Center say they have no responsibility when it comes to doctor billing. Emergency Medical Association is about to send this bill to collections. What do I do? I don't have this money and I thought that by bringing my son to a participating hospital that these bills would be covered. It would be nice for the medical center to take responsibility for its doctors.ie,if you work here, you participate in the plans that the hospital participates in.
