On 4/12/08, I was paiting the exterior part of my home and lowering a ladder, when the stabilizer fell on my head and put a big hole in my forehead. My wife rushed me to the emergency room at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital,where Dr. Adler was the attending plastic surgeon on call. He put 30 stiches in my forehead in 30 minutes of work. He has charged us $7,900.00 for these services.
My insurance Multiplan Local 812 has paid $613.20 of his bill of $7,900 and Dr.Adler has threatend to take us to court for the remaining balance of $7,286.80. I spoke with Kim at his office and they would accept $4,000 if we paid $50/month for a balance of $3,386.80. After writing a letter of appeal to my insuance, they advised me the amount for these services is $1,000.00. I then spoke with Kim again expained that I would pay the difference of $392.00 (which is my deductible) and this could be resolved. Kim said, that is not enough money and we need to be paid $4,000 for these services.
I feel like I am being taken advantage of in a emergency situation.
