College Funding Center

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

My daughter and I were instructed to go to a local college to attend a meeting with these people, totally convincing us that they would be with us every step of the way and she could attend college through a series of grants and others foolish things I should have never believed. Long story short, everything they promise is taken care of by the college admissions people when you are accepted there.

The Federal Trade Commission caught up to them in 2002 and my daughter relieved maybe one third of the money I paid. Now, I see the same company doing the same thing again? Now I'm wondering if the F.T.C is aware or anyone else for that matter if it is still going on. I'd like the rest of my money back as well. Of course I'm sure it's been too long, which really shouldn't matter in a case like this. Needless to say the money we spent out was sorely missed in our household. I've felt like I was going crazy because nothing ever came to fruition with this company.

Just like others who fell victim to these people, I was sent a letter in the mail inviting me and my parent/guardian to their meeting at a motel(I think it was the Marriott). While my mother did not think she could walk around trying to find the suite the meeting was held in. See, my mom has rheumatoid arthritis in her knees, I got my aunt to come with me and she brought her daughter with her who is only one year younger than me. Since, my mom could not make the meeting they sent a representative to my home to enterview her and get any other information from her they needed for payment and to get her signature on the contract.

This was back in 2002. I still have the contracts that we signed, they were signed on February 15,2002. She agreed to pay 107.08 a month every month until I graduated high school, and she did. She didn't have to pay as much because at the time we were living on my mom's disability checks and child support, which really didn't leave us a lot of expendable cash after rent and utilities.

After we signed the contract, i think we heard from them once and never again after that. After I graduated and decided that I was going to apply for college, I went to the website they gave and what came up was a search engine not a website. So after a while I gave up, because it had been so long that I couldn't remember what I did with the papers or the card that the representative gave to us.

I figured it was hopeless. But, recently I applied to Everest online and decided to try to find these papers again and i did. Put the web address in again it took me to a different seach engine. So I decided to do a web search for College Funding Center and saw a line saying that it was a scam and that's How I came here. I just wanted to tell my story because as you can imagine It was hard enough trying to get by without having to make these payments every month. And although that money would come in really handy right about now. But, even if getting that money back is completely impossible, I would to know if it really was a scam. Then atleast I could deal with it and move on with my life.

We were invited to attend a meeting in a hotel for my child's college. College Funding Group convinced me that I needed to use them and made payments over $1000, paid to a finance company, American Enterprises International, Inc. I called them, and they provided me with College Funding Group's address but no phone number. My child or I have not received information about any schools--nothing. I want my money back with interest.

In 2003, College Funding Center send me a letter inviting me to attend a meeting to talk about how they could help me pay for college. I went to the meeting. They promised me that for $1500, they would get 100 percent of funding necessary for me to attend college. I signed a contract. I paid they 0ver $600. They have never given me money to pay for college. I want my $600 back.

THEY STOLE $ 600 FROM ME AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK...

$1000 was paid by credit card to College Funding Center after they indicated this would maximize financial aid for college. Doris has a very low income and minimal education. She did not have the money to pay to this organization, but wanted to help her grandson attend college. She was promised they would help complete her paperwork and would help to get her grandson the most financial aid available. Unfortunately, they did nothing but complete the FAFSA and send useless tips AND the FAFSA was completed incorrectly.

They presented themselves as expert financial aid consultants, but they don't know the federal regulations. They allowed Doris to be the parent on the FAFSA, which is now allowable. Her grandson's financial aid application was on hold in our office pending proper documentation about his parents. Her grandson could have been left without any financial aid by listening to College Funding Center's expert counseling.

Luckily, Mrs. K phoned our office to discuss with us her circumstances involving her grandson and her experience with College Funding Center. We were able to do a professional judgment to exclude the biological parents and proceed with her grandson's financial aid. He almost missed the priority date for state and campus funding.

A letter is being sent to College Funding Center requesting a full refund. A complaint has been registered with the FTC and BBB.
