I received a letter in the mail saying I owed Arizona Premium $118.00. I had no idea who Arizona Premium was because I know all of my insurance companies and they are not one of them. So, the following day, I called to find out what it was all about and the woman told me that I had a balance with them. Still, all that came to mind was, "Who are you?" She stated that I had a vehicle insurance seven years ago on a vehicle that I no longer own and I still owed them money.
I asked how was that possible when I paid off my insurance company the balance they required before I ended the policy and donated the car. She stated that although I was square with them, I still owed her company money. Once again, "Who are you?" She said that they bought my policy from my original insurance company and they paid them for a year in advance. And since my policy was cancelled, I still owed Arizona the money.
She then told me to take it up with my original policy holder, which I did, and they told me that I didn't have a debt with them. They searched the database after I told them it was seven years ago. After a few minutes, she returned and ran down all the payments I had made including the final one that cleared up my account with them. The original company then told me to go back to Arizona because my account with them was clear.
Okay, so back to Arizona. I called and they still insisted that I owed them after explaining using a metaphor of a company buying a loan from a bank and the consumer then owing the company instead of the bank. I told her, "Who asked you to buy anything pertaining to me and then trying to charge me after seven years when I've cleared my account with my actual creditor? I told her that she had to be nuts if she thought I was going to shell out money to some unknown company just because they asked me for it.
