I went to The Junction with a friend who was getting a starter put on his vehicle. I saw a tv that I thought was really nice and an older guy said, "Hey, you want that tv? You can have it." I told him that my credit was horrible and that I had no money to purchase it. He said, "I'll BET I can get you financed. Your payments would only be about $100 a month." So I got the tv. And a few months later, everyone in my unit were getting rims for their cars. I go there with another one of my friends to pick up his car (after he got rims put on) and of course, they told me how fast I could get financed. I explained that I already had a tv that I was paying for. Of course, after a LONG conversation, I ended up getting rims too. This was in 2007 or the end of 2006.
Well since then, I have changed duty stations. I lost rank. I fell behind in my payments twice I believe. They contacted my 1SG. And I got on track with my payments. I went to Iraq for 15 months and was told I could not reenlist for a bonus so I decided to hold off on reenlisting. My payment is $229. I basically came back broke. I was trying to do the right thing and about a week ago I contacted The Junction and spoke to a woman by the name of Theresa.
I told her that I was trying to work on my debt and remain in good standing with my account and that I would like to lower my payment if at all possible. She said, "How's $100 lower sounding?" I said, "That's a lot better than I thought it would be." She told me that I could actually change my allotment myself and that once I got the paperwork for refinancing, she would go over it with me when I called her. Well, she called me back about three hours later and said, "I'm sorry but your 1SG just said that you came back from a 15 month deployment and that you should have no issues with your payment of $229." I informed her that my 1SG just got to the unit about two months ago and had no knowledge of my situation. She said, "Well I'm sorry but because your 1SG said you can make those payments I cannot refinance you."
