Panasonic Massage Lounger

Clancy of Iowa writes:

Purchased an EP 1005 Panasonic household massage lounger from the Brookstone store in Mall of America, represented as leather, for approximately $3000 on 8/13/96.

It malfunctioned in the summer of 1998. We were referred to an authorized repair service (under warranty). After 4 trips hauling the chair, it has not been restored to its original operating condition.

Damages include:

  • Cost of chair $3100
  • Cost of trips to Des Moines-2400 miles (4 trips to drop off, 4 to pick up).
  • 50 hours wasted time.
  • Damage to chair at repair shop-dirt, nicked leather.

The repair shop has honored their service offering. NO complaint against them. However, the company has not been able to provide reasonable repairs to this chair.

We are extremely upset, at the end of our ropes, and don't know what to do to get satisfaction.

Well, you could do what Monty of Houston did.  He sent us this:

Abstract of Judgement Cause # 97194 of 12/17/98 against Matsushita in the amount of $ 3,676.59 + court cost of $60.00 + 10% per annum interest was awarded me. This relating to my purchase of a faulty Panasonic Massage Lounger with fraudulent warranty and parts debacle. The chair cost $ 3.403.37 purchased 12/23/95 and has been in Matsushita's possession since 2/26/96.

Small Claims Court is where justice is dispensed, day in and day out.  Instead of driving back and forth to Des Moines, perhaps Clancy should drive a few blocks to his local court house.
