Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I purchased leather furniture with an extended warranty. The leather sofa started peeling and cushion worn on one side. I contacted the warranty company and they said that the extended warranty didn't cover the peeling or cushion. I went to Select Furniture to tell them about the problem and they emailed the head office, which contacted me and said that my one yr in-store warranty was expired. I told them I had a five yr extended warranty and they told me that they could fix the peeling of leather and cushion but I would have to pay. They quoted one price and a week later another. My problem is I purchased this leather sofa and extended warranty for $1800.00 and now they are telling me I'm better off buying a new sofa.

Had I known that the sofa would start peeling and cushion and would lose firmness on one cushion, I would not have purchased this furniture. Why are they selling leather furniture with five yr warranty and telling me to pay to fix it or buy a new one. I think this is bad for consumers. Select furniture should inform consumers about the peeling of their leather furniture. I'm sure no one would purchase and go through what I'm going through with them. Bad business.

We ordered the sofa from the san jose / santa clara location of Select Furniture Outlet Saturday 11/8/2008 (sales order number 61). The sales associate who helped with the order was Shilpi Thard. They said it will take 4 to 6 weeks for the sofa to arrive. They said they will be sending the order to manufacturers Monday 11/10/2008 morning.

We found the same sofa style at almost half the price in the United Furniture Club on Tuesday 11/11/2008 morning. We called to cancel our order right away Tuesday 11/11 morning and they said they will charge 25% cancellation fees. We paid $2859.97 for the sofa order and 25% of that is a very large amount - $649 .

They said it is our company policy to charge 25% restocking fees and we can not waive that.

We feel cheated completely. We are trying to get full refund of our money $2859.97. We cancelled the order within 24 hours of they placing the order with manufacturers for a valid reason, it is not like we cancelled the order just a day before the sofa was supposed to arrive.

The Select Furniture Outlet website also says - we will match or beat any advertised pricing. But when I pointed this out to them, they said, you need to bring advertised price before placing an order. They of course do not state this disclaimer on their website, which is completely misleading too.

I have tried to work through the Better Business Bureau to get our $649 back and they are not budging.

Can someone please help us and teach the select furniture outlet a lesson so that they do not do this to other consumers

Economic damage of $649. They never refunded the full amount of $2859.

They are charging almost double the amount for the Jonathan Louis brand sofas and when we brought it up and cancelled the order they charge us 25% restocking fees. It is ridiculous. We need to get full refund of our money $2859.97. We cancelled the order within 24 hours of they placing the order with manufacturers, it is not like we cancelled the order just a day before the sofa was supposed to arrive. We called them and pleaded and pleaded but they are going to charge 25% restocking fees of $2859.97 (which would be approx $750) which is a very big amount. We cancelled the order for a genuine reason within 24 hours - they are charging us ridiculous amount of money for the same sofa you get in United Furniture club at almost half the price.

They are even making up the sofa company name as they don't want to reveal it is the same Jonathan Louis brand you get everywhere else. That is taking advantage of consumer's ignorance.
