Commercial Electric Std Fluorescence Screw-in 1-way Light Bulb SKU # 353-816 Model EDXQ-23 120V 60Hz 23W .330A V # 42836 I purchased a number of referenced fluorescent 1-way light bulbs back in 2004 from the local Home Depot. I believe they are a DuraBright or variation thereof (did not retain packaging).

Missed U.S. CPSC, Dec. 2004, recall notice, release #05-064, on several same-manufacture 3-way light bulbs. However, referenced light bulbs were not part of this recall.

WARNING: 1. Purchase referenced light bulbs several times in 2004.

2. Bulbs have now just started to burn-out in January 2008 (most of these bulbs were used as basement and outside lighting; low intermittent usage).

3. Indication of bulb burn-out starts with flickering/blinking light emission and fluorescent tube never fully lights to full bright.

4. Bulb develops an electric short in their base.

5. Bulb base starts to overheat, and base starts to melt around fluorescent tube entry points.

6. As base overheats, it smolders and smokes; smoke alarms may be trigged or go off, but not always.

7. Generally one fluorescent tube will either crack at the base (one example) and/or crack and disintegrate up to approximately 1-inch; bulb is then useless. Note: I have not allowed electric power to be supplied to the bulb thereafter, and further effects are unknown.
