Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I purchased an air-conditioning unit from Michal Watkins (Efficiency Experts) in June 2007. He told me that it's company stood behind their work and would be out every six months to check out our unit and replace filters. At that 6 month point they never showed up. We had to call them, and then it took months to get someone out. They always showed up after dark and tried to look at and repair the unit at night.

The unit is less than 3 years old and has been repaired five times for faulty parts. The unit has dents in it. The air-conditioning repair person that did the repairs, noticed that there was a 5K heat strip in the unit--there was suppose to be a 10K installed. We called the Nordyne Company, who have been very helpful and supportive, and they told us that Efficiency had issued a work form for a replacement part and had been paid and we never had that part replaced. Basically from talking to Nordyne, it sounded as if he was using Nordyne to get money out of them.

The copper tubing in the unit was touching each other (something they should have noticed) and the tubing burned out because of this. The unit was not leveled correctly and water seeps back into the unit. We've had the heater unit replaced, the copper tubing repaired, the defrost board had to to be replaced, and now our blower motor is out. We've spent over $800 on the unit and that does not include the price of the blower motor.

There has been no support from Efficiency Experts. The Nordyne Company has been very helpful, though. The CEO has taken our calls and been very helpful. We do not hold Nordyne responsible for a company that misrepresented their product. It is just so disheartening to buy a new unit and have so many problems. We live in central Florida and the inside of our house is now 92 degrees. Efficiency Experts is now out of business, as they should be. This air conditioner has just caused us so much hassle.

It started with a PMA Services call on 11/30/09. A technician came to my house and check the a/c and I ask about the filter which was why I called them anyway because it's been a year when they said it would be done every six months. So he checked it by removing metal shield on the back of the a/c to get to it. Then he told me that his office did not tell him so he did not bring one. He said that he will bring one back the next day. So he did not seal the metal shield.

Three days went by and no one called or came by. So I called them again and asked about the filter and was told they were having trouble getting them and would bring one when they came out. Well, weeks went by and no call. So I called them and was told they will have a technician call me. Well, no one called. I called again and at that time was told someone would be out on Friday but this technician Shawn never did talk to me.

On 2/18/2010, some new technician came out and still did not bring a filter because the office did not tell him but at that time my heater was not blowing much air. He checked things out and reported that there was water and mold in my duck and half off and need to be replaced. Well, on 2/24/2010, I called again and was told that a new owner had took over and it would cost me over $700 to put in a filter and fix the duck. When I paid over $900 for new duck work less than two years ago. So now I am stuck with water mold and no filter on my HVAC unit and it is calling for freezing weather. Shawn said they are not responsible for their work. Now, it's under a new owner. Now, I am going to have to pay to get mold out of my duct work and I do not have that kind of extra money.

Valentino sold me a contract where they promised to increase air flow to my two bedrooms. So heat and air conditioner would work in these rooms. He assured me they would do whatever it would take to fix this problem. However, rooms are still cold at 68. They charged me $1100 and I'm very unhappy. Owner showed up and said I would need to have grates put in above my doors but smoke alarms are there and I'm not sure this would work. It's been two weeks and still no response. I have placed several calls to them and still no help. Rooms are very cold. My roommate is suffering. She has been very uncomfortable with a bad cold and needs heat.
