Mr. Poolman

Covina, CA

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I got a letter from a collections agency, Tal Lewis Inc, demanding payment of $104 for a Mr. Poolman account. I called the Collections Agency to explain that Mr. Poolman didn't meet their service agreement (i.e. they had left the pool very dirty when they cleaned it) and that they hadn't even called me to apologize or remedy the bad service. I then sent Tal Lewis Inc this situation in writing, but they didn't care. They said I was at fault (obviously as Mr. Poolman is their client and pays their bills and I'm not) and that I had to pay or else my credit would be affected.

I am assumed guilty and 'forced' to pay even though Mr. Poolman didn't meet its side of the agreement. This is not right or just. I was extorted to pay by the collections agency if I didn't pay my credit would be affected. Where's the consumers right to call up Mr. Poolman and threaten their credit if they don't complete the job they had contracted to do! Mr. Poolman also claimed when they came to quote for the business that I wasn't the owner of the house. I couldn't contract for their services - the owner needed to - however when the bill arrived they still threatened my credit if I didn't pay for their crap services!

Mr. Poolman came to take over servicing of the pool at our house. I am not the owner of the house and they told me the owner had to sign an agreement before it would be binding. However, they got me to sign why I don't know if the owner had to sign. I made it clear to them the owner wanted them to check the equipment. They said their guys are trained and do this. The guy came a week later to service the pool. It was still very dirty, with leaves and dirt on the bottom, and a ring around the sides when he left. He also didn't check the equipment. I know as I was watching and the safety valve which prevents the pump from running out of water and overheating was not in its place. We decided to go back to our old pool man as these guys were worse.

The next thing I know is a credit agency calls me demanding payment and threatening my credit, saying I have until a certain date to pay. I never received any calls from Mr. Poolman to apologize for the bad service or to sort out the problem and come to some agreement. This is bad customer service. If they had met the basic service requirements of their agreement, I would have no problem. But to fail to do this and then use the collections agency to threaten someone with an affect on their credit is extortion. It also seems the collection agencies have too much power. I called the Collections Agency, Tal Lewis Incorporated, and tried to explain that Mr. Poolman didn't meet their service agreement and that they hadn't even called me to discuss it.

We called them to look at our pool filter. He did not open it and just shocked it. They said we had to run our filter longer, so we did. 3 weeks later, pool green and pool guy said filters were broken and should have been inspected right at the first visit. Very rude customer relation worker by the name of Denise. She told us it was a "mystery that the clock were rolled back and the pool stayed green all this time."

Somebody like that should not be working with customers. Pool guys were friendly and flexible. Receptionist great. Not Denise. we have to replace filter, shock qur pool back to blue and hire a new pool service. They won't refund our $59 dollars and fees of the shock, but we don't care for that, we care to be treated with respect and no sarcasrm.
