Procraft of Virginia

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I have all the complaints about ProCraft Liquid Siding that your other residents have submitted. I have page after page. Here are just two of my letters: We signed our contract on 4-19-03 and were told the job would start within three to four weeks. I realized that we had a lot of rain, but watching the progress of our house seems to explain the delay. Over eleven (11) weeks later, on 7-07-03, the job started, but the crew has not yet worked an 8-hour day. The most they have worked in one day is 3 hours. All the work seems to be "hit and miss".

For example, today (7-20-03) they sprayed most of the house, but it looks like they washed the flooring afterwards, and now there is no "spray" left on the bottom foot around the base of the front of the house (on the porch). If this is the thermal coat, it is not covering the entire house, and there are several areas that are still not done-they are scattered areas, not all in one place. Examples: The front (outside) of the fence is sprayed, but the interior is not. A clear coating was sprayed over the oil-base paint last week, and there were several seams in the siding that had not yet been caulked.

There were still several obvious spots that were missed, and we had to point them out but we were told that they were not done yet. Then why was the coating applied halfway through the caulk job, when it poured rain less than an hour later? The pickets and railings on the decks were not sanded at all. I still see sap dripping down (on the posts on the back porch) and there is now a coat of spray over it. None of the nail holes were patched and none of the pickets were caulked. All the posts on the front and back pickets must be caulked. We were told that every single caulk and nail hole would be caulked. This is not being done.

The inside of the little fence in the back needs to be painted. All the nail holes and staple marks are showing. The footer under the screened-in door on the back porch needs to be done. The lights and fixtures were taped for protection. We were told they would be removed. What happens when it is time to replace these items, and the new light fixture is smaller than the current one? We were told that all window casements and the entire portion of the sills would be done. However, there is apparently some discussion that they may not be. When the window closes, the sill portion that the window covers is supposed to be done as well.

Our exterior flooring (brick stone and wood decking) has not been covered/ protected at all. The crew (1st Class Painting) definitely seems to be very nice and polite. However, they are not here very often, even when the weather is nice. They came about 1pm on July 7th (the first day), they did not come Tuesday, came at 3pm on July 9th, did not come on July 10th through 13th (even though they told me on the 7th that they would work all weekend). They came at 3:30pm on July 14th, did not come on July 15th or 16th, and then came sometime after 2pm on the 17th, did not come on the 18th.

They dropped off supplies at about 3pm on the 19th, and then showed up sometime after 2pm on Sunday, the 20th. The crew continues to show up at about 3pm on the days that they do come, and then they work until 5:30pm. One day, when they wanted me to sign off on a paint sample, I asked them what time they would be leaving. He said 6pm, so I told him that I would leave work early and be there by 5:45pm. I rushed home and got to the house at 5:30pm, and they were already gone. There always seems to be another job that they have to go to, or they do not come because we are expecting rain.

Most of those days it has not rained. Even when they come, it has rained at night, but they tell us that the rain did not hurt what they did.

Then, I asked, why don't they come every day? I'm very sorry, but this job seems riddled with inconsistencies. So far, it is not the quality workmanship that we expected, or that your salesman promised. Dear Mr. P., We are in receipt of your warranty offer dated 4-17-08, stating that, for $750, you will warrant paint defects, not to include railings, fences, window sashes, etc. Besides the insult, you should be aware that along with our $25,000+ that we have already paid to the company, it already comes with a warranty that is actually better than the one you "offered".

I sympathize that you inherited such a mess from Greg D. of the Virginia Beach, Virginia company, however you also acknowledge the fact that I signed a 25-year warranty with Pro-Craft the company and not Greg D., the owner. It is not my fault that Pro-Craft is under new management. I still have a warranty with Pro-Craft, the company. Due to the fact that I now have even more extensive blistering, peeling and rotting of wood since our conversation this Spring, it is now time to get bids to replace the rotting wood on our (stationary) window pieces, the railings, etc. and then re-paint.

Therefore, I am giving you this opportunity to schedule a contractor (a qualified contractor that we approve of) to do this work - or we will hire our own local contractor. The bill will be forwarded to your office as well as the main headquarters in Bellingham, Washington. The only other option is for us to be reimbursed for the entire job so that we may fix all rotting wood areas, and repaint the house to eradicate all the sloppy painting issues, which you also concurred with. I am thanking you in advance for your acknowledgment of this letter and agreement of the above by no later than 7-31-2008

At least $20,000 in rotting wood, rotting siding, etc. I want full reimbursement ($27,000) so that I can get all the work repaired and re-paint my home. Can't we get a class action suit? Greg D. now owns a business in Chantilly, VA. I think the main headquarters for Procraft LS is in Washington State (or Canada). Please, I need help and have nowhere to turn. I have a folder filled with correspondence. My home must be repaired this summer as railings are falling off, etc.

We had Procraft Liquid Siding put liquid siding on our cedar-sided home in July of 2004. It is now March of 2010 - 6 years later. The majority of our siding is now completely rotten and we have to tear off the entire exterior of our home. It seems the liquid siding and the caulking trapped moisture underneath the liquid siding and in just a few short years, completely rotted our cedar siding.

We are now replacing all of the rotten cedar with vinyl siding. How I wish we had done this instead of liquid siding 6 years ago. But we wanted to keep our cedar siding and they assured us that this was the perfect solution. They were incredibly wrong! I plan to tell everyone I possibly can, not to ever use Procraft Liquid Siding on their home.

We spent $15,000 on liquid siding that completely rotted our wood underneath it. Now we have to spend almost that much again to have our rotten wood removed and vinyl siding installed. To me, this is absolutely criminal and I feel that Procraft Liquid Siding should absorb most of this expense. Please, whatever you do, do not ever use Procraft Liquid Siding on your wood home. It will completely rot your wood siding!

The gutters and wood was completely replaced by your contractors as part of our contract less than five years ago

We exchanged emails and a couple of phones and I have not heard from them since 29 June and things are getting worst with all the rain, etc. since then. I am sure they will want to charge me for any wood damage if they ever come out to repair things.

The gutter was not properly installed and the water runs over the edge of the gutter. the constant drip actually sounds like a Chinesee water torture chamber.

In 2001, I paid $18,000 to have my colonial frame house coated with liquid vinyl siding by Procraft of Virginia. Since then, I have had nothing but problems with the product and with Procraft. My house started showing signs of poor workmanship from the very beginning and my requests for an immediate inspection by a company representative went unanswered. To date, the house continues to blister, crack, and bubble.

All of this would not be as offensive if Procraft honored in a timely fashion the 25-year product and labor warranty it provides. This has not been the case. Every year, I have had to call to request warranty workmy house has blistered, bubbled, and cracked since the initial application. And every year, I end up having to wait from 6 to 8 months to get a response and any warranty work completed by this company.

I am constantly told that it will be two weeks, then a month, then later in

whatever season it is I happen to call, and so forth. In the past, I have had to write letters to both the company and the Better Business Bureau. And after doing this, I have received a very timely response. However, the next year, when there are more bubbles, cracks, and blisters on my house, I start all over again with the same nonsensical poor customer service and delayed responses. My phone calls are rarely returned. If I get a little testy on the phone, someone does respond to me but with the same old, worn out excuses.

I am currently waiting for repair work to be done. I initially called this time in April of 2007 and have called repeatedly, each time being told that I am on the list and that work will begin in two weeks. It has been well past two weeks, as it is now mid-August and I have yet to see any warranty work started. I am beginning to grow tired of thisI have consulted other reputable local businesses and their owners tell me that having to wait this long for warranty work in unreasonable. I agree.

We had liquid siding installed on our cottage in Duck, Nc. in March of 2003. We started having a problem with the finger-caulk started splinting and falling of of the cedar lap siding and also the paint stared to fad. When the job was completed in March we were told that Paul Parten the Production Manager would contact us after 45 days after the completion of the work.

Mr Parten never called, but in going down to the cottage one weekend we found his card in the storage room door with a note on the back saying 45 day inspection. I called Paul back and asked what they were going to about fixing the finger-caulk. I was told that Paul was no longer with the Company. I was given to someone that told me that he was a outside worker and was helping out with Paul's jobs. I explained the problem with the finger-caulk was hanging from the joint's. His statement was it would be taken care of and it was. In the middle of September we started having more problems with the finger-caulk and fading. I called again in November and found out that Mike Payne was the new Production Manager. Mr Payne came down to the cottage in November and walked around the cottage with me and my husband.

He told us that after looking at the cottage that we would continue to have problems with the caulking falling out because of the way it was installed. He said they we need to keep calling and have them correct it. We have been calling for the past two years to have this corrected and now the paint is fading realy bad. We spent $16,489.00 for the siding and it comes with a 25-year non-prorated transferable warranty and also Procraft limited labor warranty. For the past two years we have made over 50 phone calls and sent two certified letters.

Each time we have been given a date for someone to come out and correct the problems we have been given one excuse after the other. The last two excuses were that the traffic was backed up and they had to turn around. They came down the next day but not to work all they did was take pictures. We were given another date that they would be their then we were told that he broke down and could not come until the next week. The date of the next week wich was this past Tuesday or Wednesday he did not show up, so I called and left a message for Elinie to call me. She called and left a message that now they cannot come out until next Thursday wich is August 25th. My husband called and asked why they cannot come out until next week he was told that they are behind in their work.

One person tells us he is broke down the next tells us they are behind. This have been going on for over two years one excuse after the other. Is their anything that we can do to get this corrected? If this can be posted as a link to Procraft website so that someone else does not go thru what we have. The Liquid Siding is very expensive and they do not follow thru with what they advertise. They advertise on the web, TV and in the News paper that their product will not crack, chip or fade. The also advertise that it is the thickness of a credit card. This is not true, we had someone check it and we were told that some areas does not even have one coat of paint on it.

We have contacted a lawyer in NC he said that we have a good case and that he could help us. His fees are over $10,000.00 and we do not have the money after putting out all this money for the liquid siding.

Please help us!!

we contracted with procraft of virginia to have their liquid siding applied to our home.fall of 2001

it was applied .....and almost immediately we started to experience all the things their warranty guarded against....blistering, peeling, cracking fading....exposing our home to moisture and extreme moisture damage,,,,,,intially after multiple calls they would send an employee out to do a little patching and touch-up...enough to appease us for the moment then on to the next victim.....after sreaming , yelling and hiring an attorney did they come back for extensive repair (?) of this product...
