My car was towed from complex with no notice somewhere between the night of Wednesday, August 18, 2010 and Thursday Morning, August 19, 2010. I called several times and left messages with the Rental Office from Thursday through Sunday, but to no avail. I was told that the Property Manager would call me back and that they didn't have any information as to where the car was. I spoke to Edison Police on Saturday, August 21, 2010 and they gave me numbers to 2 towing companies to try. The first company had no records of the car and at the second there was no answer on Saturday. After still receiving no call-back or information as of Monday morning, August 23, 2010, I then called Edison Police back. They called the complex and were told that they would be called back with the information.
By this time, the property manager finally calls me back with the location of the car. But still has no concrete reason as to why the car was towed other than other residents complained because the space was being taken up. But I explained to him that this is my second car and I hadn't been driving it but we also do not have assigned parking spaces or a limit on how many vehicles we are allowed to have. He stated that the there was a sticker placed on the car 4 days prior to the tow. This could not be true because I park my other car near the car and walk that way to get to my apartment. Even though he states that he has a picture of the sticker, who's to say that the sticker wasn't just slapped on there right before the tow? And also, being as though the rental office had on file what cars in the lot belong to whom, why didn't I receive a letter or some other form of notice?
So now, the towing company is telling me that I owe towing and storage for 6 days. How that is possible when I was prepared to retrieve the car on Thursday but information of the car's whereabouts were withheld. When I finally got in contact with the owner of the towing company that did tow it, the owner is telling me to call him back when I'm ready to get the car and he will have it at that location because he had to store it somewhere else. I did as asked and called him back to let him know I was on my way. I arrived to find that the car was still not there. He has me follow him to the location of the car. Why would the car be stored at the owner's house? And why was I given the run-around when trying to locate my car? Even though the towing company deducted some days of the storage, I still had to pay $175. This is still unreasonable for something that could have been avoided.
