I presented a postcard advertisement to my apartment complex office that states, "Bring this postcard in today to receive $300 off your first full month's rent." On the postcard, there is no expiration date and no restrictions that are stated anywhere on this advertisement. I was in the process of signing up for my fourth year lease agreement with the complex. I told the manager that I wanted to use the special towards my first month's rent. She told me that this was for first time residents' only and did not apply to me.
I asked her to show me where on the card that it stated this. She became very angry with me. I told her that maybe I should look for another apartment instead of staying there. She was so rude to me that I left very upset. I could not believe the way she spoke to me! I called her boss at another location to discuss the situation and she was just as rude to me. In fact, later that day, a letter was stuck in my door with the form, "Resident's Notice of Intent to Move Out."
The letter stated that I would have to give 60-day notice and pay full market rate until I leave. It also stated, "I am sorry if you did not receive the answers to your questions that you were hoping for." I called and left two messages and wrote two emails to the corporate office of Trinity Management in California. No one has called or emailed me from that office.
I cannot believe the treatment that I received. What recourse do I have? The company printed these postcards up and now refuse to honor them. Is this not false advertising? Plus, I feel that the 2 people (Complex Manager and Regional Office Manager) owe me a formal apology for the way that I was treated.
