Received telemarketing phone call 4/23/05; "Pete" claimed my husband and I could get health care coverage under a "medical savings organization" PPO plan for $139.95/month with a one-time enrollment cost of $119.90, payable of course by credit card now and usable in 2 business days.
"Pete" stated that coverage included medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs, and cited discounts similar to a woman's appendectomy billed at $18,000 for which she only paid $1,700 using this plan "card". "Pete" stated that this "policy" was cancellable at any time but was not sure that any premiums/costs paid were refundable. He said that name of the company was "Healthcare Plan of America" and the program was "Health Shield Plus".
My suspicions arose when he hesitated in giving the company's address, as well as the fact that there was no requirement for a physical or any health information. My husband and I have both been rated as "uninsurable" by State Farm and currently have no health care coverage, so we are probably listed as "easy marks".
I requested additional contact information from "Pete", obtained the above-noted information, and said I would discuss it with my husband and call him back. I gave no information to him that could result in financial or other damage. True to form, this just sounded too good to be true.
