HealthAmerica

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

An unsolicited phone call was placed to me while the number was on the do-not-call list. When I returned the call, the lady advised me that "someone from our number requested that they contact us." That was a complete lie as neither my wife nor I had had any contact with the company. The phone I used to return the call was different than the one they had called and the lady didn't even ask me what number I was calling about! Re-clarification of American corporate arrogance!

We applied for health insurance with HealthAmerica last spring. We previously Had insurance with Capital Blue Cross. We had to cancel the insurance because, we could not afford it anymore. We truthfully put our information on the application. Our son was denied because of a pre-existing condition so,we had to put him on blue chip.We signed all imformation for my husband & I allowing HealthAmerica to look at our Medical records. We were approved.

I had my Uterus burnt in Feb 2008 because of bleeding. It did not work. I had spoke with my doctor that we were going to be changing insurance effective 04/01/2008 and if I would require additional surgery would the new company cover that. He said that since he had proof that other methods didn't work they would see that this would be necessary. I was scheduled to have a hysterectomy done on 1/08/2009. I received a letter from HealthAmerica in December Dated 12/17/2008 approving for me to have the Hysterectomy Surgery done. I had the surgery done and had some complications so, I was in the hospital longer than I was supose to.

On 01/28/2009 we received certified mail from HealthAmerica that I did not disclose past issues with my health and that they were not going to pay any of the bills and we would be responsible for any medical bills as of 04/01/2008. I don't know why they approved the surgery if it was a issue with them. My doctor submitted this for approval. If back in December before they approved the surgery this matter came up that they would not cover this surgery I would have not had the surgery. I only had it because it was medically necessary and Healthamerica approved it in December. I don't know what to do I thought everything was okay. As, of now they said my insurance and my husbands is canceled.

IF HealthAmerica will not pay this we will be forced to fill for bankrupt.
