If You Can't Say Something Nice ...

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Eric writes:
As I go through the comments and complaints I noticed that you respond to some of them. Don't. They are flippant, egotistical and arrogant responses. Very unproffesional (sic). "Life is tough Art, get over"?! What is that?!

We find some complaints absurd and unreasonable and don't mind saying so. This is a privately operated site and those who do not like our opinions can go elsewhere. /jh

Eric replies:
Generally a "consumer" based organization is public driven with public advocacy. That means you are there to support the public, not denigrate it.

P.S. I am sure many people do go elsewhere.

Sir, we have spent well over $100,000 of our own money establishing and running this site, which has exposed many consumer scams and helped thousands of consumers avoid costly errors. We have a file bulging with thank-you notes from consumers to support that claim.

Being a consumer advocate does not mean that one automatically congratulates consumers who make foolish decisions and we occasionally do insert a snide comment. We are, after all, an independent publication not supported by tax dollars, subscription fees or corporate underwriting and free to express an honest opinion.

I take it that, as a "public affairs" practitioner, you spend your days propagating material intended to enhance the environment for your corporate, institutional or governmental clients. I believe your arrogant and condescending correspondence to us, which we will be publishing shortly, would qualify as the pot denigrating the kettle.

As for readers going elsewhere, since this is not a venture that seeks fortune or fame, we are not in the business of counting eyeballs. We would rather give offense now and then than practice the lilly-gilding that is no doubt your specialty.

Best wishes,
