Fred of Huntington Beach CA (2/25/02):
Contracted with Shurgard (Storage-To-Go) for storage of items from home until April. Home is being remodeled at this time. I received letter that Shurgard was going to close this facility end of Feb. I must remove my items befor end of Feb. and the options they provided were:
- Store in one of their storage garages, which required additional steps and cost(Off load from container to garage, rent truck and load into truck). This would cost approx $100 more than planned original cost.
- Use one of their suppliers- Bekins to off-load items from Shurgard containers to Bekins, they would store and deliver to home. The additional cost would be $450.00 that planned original cost.
- I would need to find another storage container company and shurgard would deliver for $99.
I found one company that had enough room to receive Shurgard's containers and stage their containers near for easier off-loading and reloading. The added cost would come to $153.35 more than planned original cost. I spoke with Perry M, Storage facility manager, and Tony S her boss 3-4 time during Jan. I requested that Shurgard pay for any additional cost and effort. Tony said that Shurgard had made a business decision and would not compensate customers because of this decision.
I had to coordinate the moving of Shurgard containers to their competitor. Then have family assist in the off-loading from Shurgard containers to Door To Door containers. This was an inconvenience to take a Friday to do this, plus the additonal cost came to $153.35
