We moved out of our apartment on August 8, 2000. We gave 30 days notice on July, 8, 2000. Sept 8th was more than 30 days to return my security deposit. I received a letter instead. The letter stated that I owed them money for replacement of the rug for spots on the carpet. I couldn't believe I was being sent this bill ... seeing that steam cleaning the carpet would be the only thing needed. We lived in the apartment for a year and a half.

I was so stunned by this I went over to the apartment complex and confronted the leasing agent on duty. She told me that the carpet was replaced. Steam cleaning was never attempted. About a month and a half ago to two month I was talking to the manager of the property outside of my apartment building ... she told me and the upstairs tenant that she was getting estimates on replacing the whole building's carpeting. My neighbor was told that they were waiting for each tenant to move out to replace the rugs ... this way they would be avoiding a potential liability ... if someone should get hurt while the carpet installers were putting in the new carpet.

My rugs didn't need to be replaced ... they just needed to be cleaned. It was normal wear and tear. The apartment was left sparkling clean. They chose to put new carpeting in the building and start with my unit. Why am I paying for their bottom line and for the management to look good?

If Josette wants to make an issue of it, she should sue the company in Small Claims Court.
