OfficeMax - Rainchecks

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Most states require that when advertised items are not in stock, rainchecks must be issued, allowing customers to buy the item at the advertised price the next time it's in stock. But as everyone knows, this doesn't always happen.

On numerous ocasions I have gotten the Sunday paper and on the OfficeMax circular they have the "HP complete camera & printer package" at $149.99 -- you save $150.00! -- but they never have it. Now I went again today because it's in this Sunday's paper again and the young man I spoke with said that item hasn't been in the store in over a month but it's still being advertised. Isn't that false advertisement? Isn't there a law against that?

I received a gift purchased at OfficeMax for Christmas. Because I did not have the receipt, which a normal person wouldn't, I recieved a store credit. I've tried using the credit on 3 different items in the weeks since December 26th when the item was returned. Each time I go to the store to purchase the items, which are advertised in the OfficeMax weekly sale ads, I find the items are never in stock. When I ask about the items, all I ever hear is that the sales person has no idea if or when they'll be back in stock, and if they do get the items in after the sale is over, I'm out of luck getting the item for the sale price.

So far I've gone for a digital camera, a webcam, and tonight Imation CD-r's. 3 wasted trips to find out OfficeMax never has stock of things they advertise. What really irritated me tonight is the fact that a supervisor didn't even have the courtesy to turn around and answer my questions. She kept her back to me the entire time while she was fiddling with a wire or something. I'm not pleased at all with OfficeMax and if it wasn't for this store credit I would never shop there at all. Poor selection of advertised items and poor customer service.
