About 5 years ago, my brother was going through a divorce, his wife had moved out, and he was having problems paying his bills. About this time, my 19-year old son, found himself without a place to stay. So i offered my brother $400 a month if he will let my son stay with him, to which he agreed. About 4-5 months went by when my brother receives a foreclosure notice.
By this time his oldest son,and both my son's girlfriend, and his son's girlfriend, were living with him. So to try to help, I talked to the mortgage company, make agreements to take over payments with $5,000 down. My nephew put the electric bill in his name. Everything was fine. Then, consumers' tax on his dad's $1,300 bill that he failed to pay, when I took over the house, came along with a shutoff notice. So my nephew, because the bill was now in his name, moved out, so I transferred the bill to my name. Soon the $1,300 was tacked on my bill, now in my name, and about the time of the, foreclosure boom.
I got a foreclosure notice for 1 month behind, and had lived the last 3 months of winter with no heat, or electricity, after calling the mortgage company, and being told they had no records of me taking over payments, I decided, to heck with it, take the damn house. Now, I live in Delton with just my son and his girlfriend, the bill was put in her name, to get them off my back for something I'm not responsible for.
Now they have attached the bill on to her account, and is being told, we must pay his bill,or they will shut us off again. If this is legal, then they are the only ones I know who don't have to get a judgement, and go through the proper channels to secure a debt. I would be more than happy to challenge them in court, but it's not my responsibility to prove I'm innocent. If this is legal, then I would like to know who they paid off to let them do this to people. I think another special interest group is in order. If this is not legal, then yes, I would like to talk to an attorney.
